Things to consider before and after using a face wash

An appropriate face wash routine can give you healthy glowing skin. Many people use a face wash inappropriately, employing wrong and improper techniques before and after application. The way you use your face wash can make quite a difference to your appearance as well. Read on to know the right way to use your face wash for maximum effect.

Know your skin type
You can find a face wash that performs best on your particular skin type. For this, you should ascertain whether you have normal, sensitive, dry, or oily skin. This should be ascertained before purchasing a face wash or following a skincare routine.

Use face wash at least twice a day
Immaterial of how much dirt or grime has accumulated on your face throughout the day, you should preferably wash your face at least twice a day. This is because the oil that gets accumulated in the pores of your skin throughout the day clogs the pores. A face wash, used twice daily, is capable of unclogging them.

Wash your hands and face
Before using a face wash, you should wash your hands thoroughly, as dirt-ridden hands might rub more dirt and grime into your face. So, before you even splash water on your face, rinse your hands thoroughly with soap and ensure that they are clean. Next, wash your face with lukewarm water; if the water is too hot, it may damage the skin.

Lather up
Use a small amount of face wash. You do not want to waste it, so using an appropriate amount of face wash is advisable. Use your bare hands to apply the face wash, and avoid any sponge or washcloth. Lather it up on your face by using your fingertips to rub it onto your skin gently.

Cleanse your face properly
You may be tempted to scrub your face, but remember the more harshly you scrub, the more you may irritate your skin. It is recommended to wash your face in a steamy shower, as that will open up the pores better. Even if you don’t wash your face in the shower, make it a point to splash your face with some lukewarm water.
Gently massage the neck, face, and the part under your chin in circular motions. Do this for around 20 to 30 seconds. Ensure that the face wash does not enter the eyes.

Rinse and dry your face
Rinse and dry all parts of your face, especially the area surrounding your eyes, as some of the ingredients of the face wash may irritate the eyes if not properly rinsed. Ensure that the water used for rinsing is of the same temperature as the water that was previously used to wash the face. Finally, dry your face by simply patting your skin using a clean, soft towel.

Apply a moisturizer
After you have washed and dried your face, applying a moisturizer can be a good idea. A good moisturizer works really well with a face wash. A moisturizer helps in supplementing the skin with the necessary moisture that can either control excess oil from the skin or provide moisture if the skin is dry.
